the record: Haffner and Daniels rewrite MC books

Despite a down season due to Monmouth’s reliance on a ground attack, senior Evan Haffner is still moving up in the MC record books.
Haffner began the 2006 season as Monmouth’s all-time leader in receiving TDs, and he has now set the record for career receptions.
During the Grinnell game, Haffner passed former teammate Nathan Gaskill for the all-time in receiving yards; the record currently stands at 2,136 yards with at least five games left to go.
The three career receiving records doesn’t completely fill Haffner’s resumé. The senior is also the Scots’ main man in the return game. He currently holds the career records for kick returns, kick return yardage and punt returns.
Haffner needs just 216 punt return yards to become the career record holder. Haffner is also shy 368 yards of the MC kickoff return record.
Haffner has scored 176 points in his MC career and stands 32 points short of Hall of Famer Mark Reed’s 208 point total. This is one of the most prestigious records in the MC books to date.
Haffner is also closing in on the all-purpose yardage record. Haffner is currently 192 yards behind record holder and Monmouth Hall of Famer Ron Baker. It is possible that Haffner will grab this record on Saturday, Oct. 7, against St. Norbert.
If that doesn’t happen, it is even more likely to occur against Ripon on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Bobby Woll Athletic Field.
Barker’s name is also being chased by the Scots’ senior running back Dante Daniels. Daniels, who leads the nation with 850 yards rushing, is on pace to break the Monmouth season rushing record, held by Baker.
The record stands at 1,218 yards. Daniels unseated Baker for the most rushing yards by an MC running back earlier this year, with his 229 yard performance against Beloit.
Daniels currently has 11 rushing touchdowns on the season which ranks second in Division III football and first in the Midwest Conference.
His 11 touchdowns also put him on pace to break the season rushing touchdown record.
In 1968, Charlie Corle ran into the end zone 19 times for the Scots. Daniels is on pace to smash this record. Daniels’ four touchdown performance against Lawrence University on Saturday, Sept. 9, tied him for the single game rushing touchdown record. This is another record that was held by Baker as well.
