The Monmouth College Men’s Soccer Team sits at 5-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the Midwest Conference. On Saturday, Sept. 30, the Scots faced the Prairie Fire in an anticipated match-up.
The team entered the match confidently and was able to score first. Freshman Sam Geiger was able to drive the ball home after a scramble in front of the Knox net. The Scots had a few other opportunities in the game, especially the second half, but were unable to score.
Sam Beciri was able to put the ball in the net, but his goal was called back on a penalty. Later in the match, Beciri was pulled down as he advanced into the Knox box. The referee spotted the ball just outside of the box instead of awarding the Scots a penalty kick. The Scots blasted the free kick just over the top of the crossbar missing a great chance to score.
On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the Scots faced Clarke College. The Scots were able to bounce back from their disappointing tie with Knox with a 3-2 win. Freshman Zach Nasti had two goals for MC.
Monmouth College will face Lawrence on Saturday, Oct. 7, and then St. Norbert, Oct. 8.
