I am writing to you about the false information that you printed in the Monmouth College Courier on Feb. 9, 2007. The title of the article was “Misunderstanding at ZBT leads to physical altercation.” It seems to me that the information that was provided to the Monmouth College student body was merely hearsay and in no way was completely true. The real story of what happened at ZBT goes as follows:
Three Monmouth citizens were checked into a party and signed their names as part of the procedure at the door to any fraternity party. There was a misunderstanding in the Party Room which led to the altercation. The “townies” got physical with a few of Monmouth College’s finest football players and pushing began in the dance room. One of the men received a head butt to the nose and a bottle was broken in an attempt to thwart the situation. The bottle was broken by one of the “townies” and was thrusted lightly at a Monmouth College student which barely broke the skin. This was all taking place while the men of Zeta Beta Tau were forcing the problem outside of the house. The police and security were called and the three men were later apprehended. The three men were the “townies” in which they were arrested and now blacklisted from campus as well as all three fraternity houses. The men of Zeta Beta Tau have taken measures to prevent any type of altercation like this from happening in their house ever again.
