Well-known philosophers coming to MC

At 7 p.m. on Monday, March 26, Monmouth College will host Mary Catherine Bateson as the speaker for the annual Samuel M. Thompson Memorial lecture in the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.

Bateson’s lecture, which is titled, “Composing Community,” will answer this question: “[A]s our society becomes more diverse and subject to more and more rapid change, what kinds of communication can hold us together, and what are the available patterns for dealing with difference, building on curiosity?”

Bateson received her Ph.D from Harvard University in 1963, and since has had an accomplished career in teaching and writing.  Read More...

Activities encourage awareness of other cultures

Every year, Monmouth College plays host to a week of cultural observance and understanding. Spearheaded by the director of intercultural life, Ruby Pentsil-Bukari, the week of discussion and festivities, known as Cultural Awareness Week, is meant to increase campus awareness of minorities as well as foreign cultures.  Read More...

Singing group spends spring break in Miami 

Whoever said music will get you nowhere was definitely wrong. The Sound of Five, Monmouth College’s a capella group, went all the way to Florida for part of spring break. The group flew to the “Sunshine State” on March 6 and returned March 14.
