On Saturday, April 14, 2007, the CATA 491 Freedom of Expression classes will present a conference entitled “Facing the Future,” sponsored by the Wackerle Career and Leadership Center.

Held from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Stockdale Center, the conference is open to all interested in improving career development skills and learning how to face the future with confidence.

Bill Wallace, professor of communication and theatre arts, and Michelle Shawgo, director of the Wackerle career development program, developed the conference idea to address issues important to college graduates and soon-to-be grads. Wallace and Shawgo thought incorporating the CATA 491 classes would be a great way to implement and deliver such a program.

The professional conference will cover a variety of topics Monmouth College students are likely to face after graduating. Topics include: graduate school, employee benefits, resume critique, interview preparation, expectations in the workplace, finding your first home, censorship and managing your money, to name just a few.

Concurrent sessions will include presentations and keynote speakers. Keynote speakers include Monmouth alumni Olivia Heaton, ‘06 and Jason Myers, ‘06 who will speak during lunch about their post-graduation experiences.

Lunch will be provided and a full schedule will be released soon. Morning refreshments begin at 9:30 a.m. and the conference begins at 10 a.m. A drawing for prizes will also be held at the conclusion of the conference.

Remember to save the date on April 14 and register for the “Facing the Future” conference by April 12.
