Annual philosophy lecture instructs on ‘Composing Community’

At 7 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2007, Mary Catherine Bateson delivered the annual Samuel M. Thompson Lecture at Monmouth College.

Thompson served in the philosophy department at Monmouth College for 46 years. Because of his dedication to the College and for his popularity not only throughout the college but also with his two popular textbooks, “A Modern Philosophy of Religion” and “The Nature of Philosophy,” a lecture is annually given in Thompson’s honor. Past lecturers who have come to the college include Sandra Harding of University of California Los Angeles and Ted Cohen of the University of Chicago.  Read More...

College plans new parking lot to open in fall 2007

If everything goes through the Monmouth City zoning board correctly, students will have more parking options of the 2007-2008 school year.

According to Don Gladfelter, vice president for finance and business, Monmouth College has purchased a lot, approximately half a city block in area, off Euclid Avenue. The lot, which currently contains a vacant nursing home which has been on the market for nearly seven years, will hopefully be razed and a parking lot for students will be constructed in its place.   Read More...

2008 degree applications due now

The word “graduation” can have many different meanings for students. To some students, graduation means moving on to pursue a chosen career, and is the culmination of the college experience. To other students, graduation means facing the “dreaded blue paper” and typing up their applications for degree.

All colleges have a similar process in which each student must file his or her intent to graduate. Students are requested to submit their application for degree two semesters before the expected graduation date. Read More...
