The Monmouth College community shows its support for victims of tragedy with candlelight vigil

As nightfall descended on Monday, April 23, and many across campus prepared for the approaching Scots Day activities, a glowing ring of light emerged from the plaza outside Wallace Hall. There, a large assembly of over 100 members of the Monmouth College and off-campus communities stood, holding luminous white candles and united in a wide, connected circle of bodies. This special event was a candlelight vigil, seeking to pay tribute to those lives lost in the Virginia Tech shootings on April 16 and impart a sense of remembrance and faith to its observers.    Read More...

Students and faculty recognized in annual Honors Convocation

The end of the school year always brings stress, but for many students present at the annual Honors Convocation, it also brings much praise.

The convocation, which commenced at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24 in the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium, is meant to honor those Monmouth College students who have completed exceptional work during this academic year.  Read More...

College drinking community a relatively new phenomenon says government research organization

The Monmouth College motto, “What college was meant to be,” which appears on the college website and the recruitment communication information, has been published in this newspaper multiple times in the past few months. To some students, including those writing letters to the editor, this motto may be interpreted as encouraging alcohol consumption on campus.  Read More...
