Monmouth College’s small
setting creates the perfect conditions for rumors to grow and
prosper. Recently, such rumors as, “North Hall is sinking and will
have to be torn down and rebuilt at some point,” “Pepperoni’s
Pizza Company is back” and “the football field is getting redone”
have all made their way through the campus networks.
First things first, North Hall
is not sinking into the ground, and the foundation is fine. This
is according to Mauri Ditzler, Monmouth College President. After
only three years, North Hall is in good running condition and is
under no threat of falling or sinking into the ground.
Next, yes, Pepperoni’s Pizza
Company is finally coming back to Monmouth. Although many students
were told and believed Pepperoni’s would be back on the week of
Oct. 1, this was incorrect.
According to Pepperoni’s, they
will be officially re-opening on Tuesday, Oct. 9. So, Monmouth
College students get your phones ready and see who can be the
first to order the “college special.” And do not fret--the number
for Pepperoni’s is still 734-8090. Enjoy!
Finally, let’s turn to the
football field rumor. For years, students have heard whispers that
Monmouth College was going to redo its football complex, turfing
the field, building better stands and developing a more adequate
press box.
While the College still hopes
to do that, redoing Bobby Woll Memorial Stadium is not the top
priority of the College, according to Diztler.
“Right now the College is
focusing on the new academic complex and most of our fundraising
efforts are being put towards that,” stated Ditzler.
However, the president did
mention that several alumni and even trustees have expressed
interest in investing in a new football complex. He went on to say
that the aforementioned trustees and alumni have said they would
be more interested in investing in a new sports complex rather
than the new academic building.
The most interesting movement
on changing the football stadium is intramural lighting. According
to Don Gladfelter, vice president for finance and business, the
College may be putting intramural quality lights on the football
field. However, no changes are guaranteed.
