This weekend is the women’s golf team’s conference tournament. The Scots are sending six players, Megan Pickrel, Jessica Sackville, Kathleen Woolley, Heidi Harthshorn and Lindsay Bernard, to Beloit College for the three day tournament.

Each day, the four lowest scores will be calculated into the team score. Last year, the Scots placed fourth but are looking to place higher this season. “A goal since the beginning of the season has been to place in the top three this year,” said Coach Molly McNamara. McNamara believes this goal is very attainable since the girls have shown great consistency throughout this year’s season.  The top two contenders in the Midwest Conference are Illinois College and Knox College.

In the past, the conference has only been two days, but this year, with the additional day, the teams will have to show greater consistency in scores to determine where they will place.

The men’s golf team has already ended their fall season but is already looking forward to the spring season. The fall season for men’s golf is a short one, meant to gear up the team for the spring season.

The Scots are led by senior Aaron Thiel and Joel Johnson. In his eighth year of coaching at Monmouth, Dave Ragone is pleased to have “a lot of young players with great experience.”

The team has 19 members who participated in three tournaments this fall.  Averaging a score of around 312, Ragone is looking for the team to strengthen for the spring season.

Ragone coaches the men with the belief that, “The strength of our team is the depth of our team.”  Last year, the Scots earned the conference title and are looking to defend their title.
