According to a
police report from the Monmouth Police Department, 21-year-old
Mark Thomas Mullaney was arrested at 830 East Broadway, Monmouth
College’s Poling Hall, on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 10:32 a.m., for
assault and disorderly conduct. The arrest occurred the Thursday
prior to the start of Monmouth College’s fall break.
Mullaney was a
Monmouth College senior and a third year resident assistant
(RA), and this year Mullaney was placed in the Harding House of
Founders Village. Mullaney also served as a member of the
Monmouth College pipe band.
Sergeant
Derrick Johnston of the Monmouth Police Department stated
that the call to the authorities was made by a member of
Monmouth College personnel.
According to
State’s Attorney Albert “Chip” Algren, Monmouth College later
requested that formal charges against Mullaney be dropped.
In an interview
with Jacquelyn Condon, vice president for student life and dean
of students, Condon stated that she could not release any
information regarding the possibility of Mullaney having been
expelled from the College, whether or not Mullaney has been
fired from his position as an RA or the name of the individual
or individuals to whom the assault was against. This information
is tied directly to Mullaney’s educational records, of which all
content is protected under The Family Educational Rights and
Privacy Act (FERPA).
When contacted to
comment on the situation, Mullaney declined to disclose any
details due to what he cited as legal reasons.
A few students
have noticed Mullaney’s absence from campus since the event.
Senior Ryan Bland noted that Mullaney was his RA in Harding
House this semester but claims that Mullaney’s job has now been
taken over by senior Tim Doubek. Doubek formerly served as an RA
in Graham Hall.
