Monmouth homecoming a big hit
Sophomore Melissa Krage, member of the MC dance team, participates in the spirit shout.

A crazy weekend of festivities and spirit shouts has come to a close. Homecoming turned out to be a big success at Monmouth. With many activities for students and alumni to attend, everyone to had the possibility of having a fun time.

As a prequel to the weekend homecoming events, the college held its annual Powderpuff football games. These football games took place between the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior Monmouth College women.  Coming out victorious from the match up was the freshman class.

The spirit shout kicked-off the homecoming weekend. Although it rained, spirits were still high as Monmouth College students packed themselves into Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.  At the event, different campus groups, such as Sigma Phi Epsilon, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Coalition for Ethnic Awarness (CEA) and the Monmouth College cheerleaders and football team, performed and showed their spirit. The Pi Phis and ZBTs took third place in the spirit shout with the ladies of Grier Hall coming in second and, in first, the men and women of CEA.

Also, during the spirit shout, the winners of the banner contest of buildings and groups around campus were announced.  Third place went to the women of Leidman Hall, second went to the Crimson Masque, and first place with a prize of $75 went to Kappa Kappa Gamma and Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Of course, the most anticipated awards of the night were the announcements of Homecoming royalty.  Freshman attendants for homecoming were Nathan Parks and Megan Clarke.  The attendants for the sophomore class were Demarkco Butler and Kate Drost.  Following the sophomore class were Shawn Allen and Paige Halpin, the attendants for the junior class.  Then the senior attendants were Toheeb Adigun and Rachel Atherton.

The moment everyone had been waiting for arrived, the crowning of the 2007-2008 homecoming king and queen.  This year’s king and queen went to Don Trinite and Emily Bakes.

Saturday, Oct. 27 was a busy day at Monmouth.  The morning began with the Monmouth College Homecoming parade.  Groups from around town and the MC campus came to show their Scot spirit, including, the Monmouth College Pipe Band, Monmouth-Roseville Marching Bands, the Monmouth College Marching Band, Monmouth College alumni as well as different campus organizations.  The winners of the homecoming parade contest entries were in third place were Pi Beta Phi/Zeta Beta Tau.  In second place was Kappa Kappa Gamma/Sigma Phi Epsilon.  Taking first place in the parade competition was Alpha Xi Delta/Alpha Tau Omega. The Overall winners of the Monmouth College Homecoming Spirit Award were Kappa Kappa Gamma and Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Later on in the day it was the Monmouth College Football teams time to shine as they won 26-23 against Illinois College in overtime.  Later during the night, family, students, and alumni were invited to come and watch the Homecoming concert, featuring the Monmouth College Big Band and The Sound of Five.
