Marching Scots bring it indoors for final concert

This Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m., the Monmouth College Marching Band will be performing the season ending concert entitled, “Marching Band Spectacular.” This concert will consist of the band’s parade music including works from Styx and Ray Charles.

As well as drum cadences, the band will perform school songs such as “A Flame of White and Crimson,” the alma mater song of the college, and our fight song, “Monmouth Loyalty.”

Kristin Meyer, one of the band’s two student drum majors, spoke enthusiastically about this upcoming concert, “We are looking forward to an energetic closer for the band’s season with the concert.” When asked what the purpose of this concert was, she responded, “This show is designed to give students, faculty, staff and the community a chance to hear the band perform in a laid-back, indoor concert hall setting.”

While the Marching Band is still quite a new ensemble on campus, it has grown much over the past 3 years. In fact, it has improved in great strides and, according to Kristin, has even shown dramatic improvement since the week-long band camp held at the beginning of the season. During this camp, they rigorously drilled for a week on fundamentals, music and the field show that went along with the Styx performance.

There are many backgrounds that make up the students in the band, and they seem to have grown together, developing individuality in style as musicians and performers.

This Saturday will witness an exciting and enjoyable concert from the wonderful marching band, the Marching Scots.
