Each year on
February 14, lovers throughout the nation express their
appreciation for the one they call on Valentine’s Day.
This year the
holiday was celebrated on a Thursday, and Monmouth College
students seemed to engage in typical traditions such as sending
candy, flowers and valentine’s cards to a special person.
Organizations
affiliated with Monmouth College offered services where students
could purchase Valentine gifts and send them to a person of their
choice.
One such group was
organized by the girls from Fulton Hall, who sold candy grams for
$ .50 each. Any purchaser could write a note to the recipient, and
the candy gram came with either conversation hearts or Hershey
Kisses.
In all, Fulton
Hall sold 94 candy grams in their fundraiser, and the proceeds
went to the hall’s funds.
People like
Valentine’s Day for various reasons, and one is that a person can
expose the truth behind their secret crush.
Two participants
of the Fulton Hall fundraiser, junior Ryan Brandt and freshman Bri
Larson (known together as Brian), said they like the holiday for
various reasons.
“I love
Valentine’s Day and I think it’s really fun,” Brandt said. “I
really like the conversation hearts, that’s probably my favorite
part. I’m pretty sure I ate 12 boxes of them last week. Plus, I
really like pink!”
Most girls tend to
be infatuated with Valentine’s Day, but guy’s reactions are
generally mixed.
I mean, let’s be
real, having to spend money on the girl in your life because of a
hallmark holiday is not exactly a positive thing. But, some guys
enjoy the holiday and showing appreciation for their significant
other.
After all, it is
not every day that you can send your secret crush a love note,
usually that would be considered a bit stalkerish.
On this particular
day, secret admirers can reveal their truth, and new love can be
established.
So, a personal
note from Yours Truly, Happy Valentine’s Day to all the girlies
out there. You are all beautiful, and deserve to be treated the
same as you are on Valentine’s Day, every day of the year.
