Sandy delivers mail and smiles
to Monmouth College students

Everyone on campus knows our lovable mail lady Sandy, but how well do we know her?  Sandy Russell-Corbin was born and raised in Monmouth, but has lived in many places, including Oregon, Idaho, Atlanta and Pennsylvania. This was because her first husband was transferred a few times for his job, but also, because sometimes she would find a place that she liked and decide to move there.  She also has three children, two stepchildren and four grandchildren.  Her children and grandchildren live in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  She comes from a very family-oriented family and sees her children and grandchildren several times a year.  It is often difficult to see them because of work conflicts.  She is also an animal lover and animal rights activist.  She has a Jack Russell terrier named Pete.  She still likes to travel and frequents Orlando with her mother and husband.  Corbin wants to travel more, but her husband is not much of a traveler.  However, it seems that Corbin considers the students of Monmouth College part of the family, she said, “You are the best students in the world and I love you all.”

Corbin originally put an application in to the college for an office job, but, when she saw that there was an opening as a mail clerk, she sent an application there.  People told her that it would be good to get her foot in the door, and some day move up. But, she now says of her job, “I love it, love it love it!”   Corbin quickly realized that she thoroughly enjoyed coming into work everyday.  Her favorite part of her job is getting to know all of the students, and she would not take another job unless she was given the opportunity to work with students as much as she already does.   She has been at the college for four years now and feels like a senior herself.  She added, “The graduating class was my first class and I am not looking forward to letting them go.”  She also said that she loves all of her students but feels a certain kinship with the graduating class since they all started at the college together.  When asked about how she has such an amazing ability to recall over one thousand names, faces and mailbox numbers, she replied, “ I had no idea I would have a gift for remembering mailbox numbers, it just sort of came out when I started the job.”  Corbin is a very religious woman and believes that she was put in this position by God and feels very blessed to work with students everyday.  Corbin believes that this is the best job she has ever had and does not plan on retiring any time soon.
