On the morning of Sunday, Jan. 27, Jesse Haskett, a 22-year-old senior at Monmouth College, was arrested in Monmouth, Ill., on three separate charges. The charges were criminal trespassing to a residence, criminal damage to property over $300 and public intoxication.

At 3:30 a.m., responding officers observed Haskett attempting to enter a residential home located at 304 East Detroit Avenue. According to an article from the “Galesburg Register-Mail” issued on Saturday, Feb. 5, Haskett was unresponsive when the officers shouted at him to stop what he was doing.

The list of damages caused to the property includes a broken porch lock and additional damage inflicted to a screen door, several porch screens and a decorative lattice. Haskett allegedly admitted to the officers that he had been drinking Red Bull energy drinks and Vodka at a local bar earlier.

A police report from the Monmouth Police Department states that a 14-year-old female juvenile was also involved in the incident.

Haskett was handcuffed by the officers and was held overnight in the Warren County Jail. State’s Attorney Albert “Chip” Algren has confirmed that Haskett will participate in a pre-trial conference on March 26, 2008. In addition, Algren verified that Haskett is to face two of the initial charges of criminal trespassing to a residence and criminal damage to property over $300.

Haskett played as the center for the Monmouth College men’s basketball team. Monmouth College basketball coach Mark Vershaw declined to comment on the situation to The Courier, but informed the “Galesburg Register-Mail” that Haskett has been suspended from the team while his case is still pending. Haskett was recently removed from the team’s roster.
