MC dance-dance revolution

Although outside temperatures have been drastically low of late, the Monmouth College dance team makes sure the gym stays nice and hot during the halftimes of men’s home basketball games.

The team has increased in number since last year, as they now have two additional girls on the squad.

Junior Lindsay Jackson of Moline said the dance team is much different this year from last year, with most of the changes being positive.

“The team is a lot bigger; we have a lot more freshmen than we had last year,” Jackson said. “I think we work better as a team, a lot more people contribute to making up dances and stuff, last year it was just a couple of people who made up all the dances, so more people are taking initiative.”

Regardless of the changes to this year’s dance team, one thing is for certain: they still successfully bring instant enthusiasm to Fighting Scots sporting events and make the fans wait an extra five minutes before they get their popcorn at halftime.

Of the team’s 16 members, six are freshmen and another four are seniors. Jamie Weiss and Mickenzie Jones are two of the team’s seniors, and they are also the captains.

The dancers take pride in their dancing, and they are one of the few organizations on campus that does not receive funding from Monmouth College.

This year, the dance team has performed several dances, performing to such songs as “Wait a Minute” by The Pussycat Dolls, “Girlfriend” by Avril Lavigne and “Wake Up Call” by Maroon 5.

With only one home basketball game left this season, the squad is close to concluding their season, as they only dance at the halftime of home football and basketball games.

The final performance of the season for the Dancing Scots will be on Feb. 16, when they will dance with the Monmouth College cheerleading squad.
