George Perry, the
head male soccer coach at Monmouth College and organizer of its
intramural sports is asking all MC students to get out, be active,
and enroll in the intramural sports that Monmouth College has to
offer.
Currently in
February 2008, the intramural sports that are going on are a Men’s
5-on-5 tournament and a women’s 3-on-3 tournament.
This spring is
going to bring 4-on-4 soccer, flag football, co-ed volleyball,
badminton, bags, and Frisbee golf that Perry and those involved in
intramural sports are very excited about. But they don’t plan on
being content with the sports that the campus offers now. They
want the campus to look out for billiards, ping-pong and chess
tournaments that are coming to Monmouth in the future.
Perry is very
excited about where the intramural sports are going on campus and
noted that co-ed volleyball gets the highest attendance, but
basketball is doing very well right now. He also noted that he
looks for the Scots Day softball tournament to draw in big
participation as it has in the past. He says that the future looks
bright for intramural sports on Monmouth College soil especially
with the excitement being drawn in by the up and coming men’s and
women’s division flag football tournament that will be taking
place in the spring.
Perry is working
hard to get the intramural sports off on the right foot, and he is
asking Monmouth students to come out and get involved.
Watch for the
flyers posted all over campus and the e-mails that will be sent
out to each student when the dates are set for each of the sports.
After you get the information, you need to go to the Monmouth
Website and go to Recreation and Fitness, then click on
Intramural Sports on the side. At that site, it lists all of
the intramural sports that take place year-round and there is
information and a link to sign your team up.
Perry suggests
that you follow these instructions and get a team together.
“It’s an
opportunity to participate with your friends, keep active, take a
break from the school work and hopefully to get to meet some new
friends,” Perry said.
Also if you
have any suggestions, new activities, or comments, Perry
encourages you to send it his way. “This is a student program and
their involvement is what makes it work so any suggestions are
certainly welcome.”
