On Sunday, Feb. 24, the Coalition for Ethnic Awareness hosted a dodgeball tournament to raise money for the A.M.E., a local church.

Five teams, the Green Leaves, Ying Yang, Dark Squad, Run for Your Life, and Run Your Ice Off, competed in the round robin tournament of dodging, dipping, ducking, diving and dodging.

The normal rules of dodgeball were followed, and four members of each team played at a time. Sophomore Garrett White of the Green Leaves said, “It is a great event to get us out and have some fun.”

Each team played a best of three matches round robin. At the end of the tournament, Run for Your Life and Run Your Ice Off were competed in the final match-up.

Run for Your life was made up of Aaron Etienne, Tim Bentz, Craig Maher and Damon Bautista.  Run Your Ice Off included Seth Leitner, Drew Petersen, Tyler Hannam and Clay Staley.

Run for Your Life entered the match undefeated. DeMarko Butler, the president of the Coalition for Ethnic Awareness, said of the tournament: “It is going really, really well. As the day progresses, I expect it to get even better.”

In the end, Run Your Ice Off won the tournament with a 2-1 match victory. Of the victory, Staely said, “This defensive team has mastered the five d’s of dodgeball.”  This is the second tournament C.E.A. has hosted. They are scheduled to host a volleyball tournament later this year.
