Local 'Real Beauty Retreat

MONMOUTH, Ill. – On April 11 and 12, 2008, Maple City Baptist Church will host a weekend event for teens and women called The Real Beauty Retreat. The event will feature nationally known author and Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker, Shari Braendel.

The weekend begins on Friday, April 11 at the Monmouth-Roseville High School Auditorium with an event for girls and teens in grades 4 thru 12 called Modest is Hottest. The event will help girls discover body type, make-up trends for teens, dominate colors, and the truth about body image.

The highlight of the night is the Modest is Hottest fashion show featuring local models. The show will feature the latest trends from JC Penney’s in Galesburg as well hair styles and makeup by Salon Company in Monmouth.

“The goal of the teen event is to inspire all girls, all women, to see themselves as God intended,” says Braendel. “We want them to be more confident and feel good about who they are, and celebrate their God-given beauty.”

Doors to the event open at 5:30 pm. Attendees can have a fashion photo taken by Maple City Photography, and can have a body shape and color analysis done by Braendel starting at 6:00 pm. Modest is Hottest will start at 7:00 pm.

Event Coordinator, Jen Braun, saw Braendel last summer at a conference in Proverbs 31 Ministries home base of Charlotte, North Carolina. “I was captivated by Shari’s ability to entertain her audience while still delivering a powerful and practical message. It is a topic that reaches every woman, regardless of her age.” Braun was also impressed to see how Braendel made the topic of modest dressing fashionable and appealing to teens.

The weekend continues on Saturday, April 12 with a half-day conference for all women (college age and up) entitled What Not to Wear…A Girlfriend’s Guide to Glamour. Also held at the Monmouth-Roseville High School Auditorium, the conference connects inner-beauty and outer beauty in a fun-filled manner.

“I hope to share practical image and style advice for all shapes and sizes,” Braendel says of the women’s event. “This is all done in an interactive, best friend kind of way.”

Doors will open at 9:00 am with Braendel offering all participants the chance to have a color and body analysis. Braendel will take the stage from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Lunch is included.

Tickets for Friday’s “Modest is Hottest” event will be $10, while Saturday’s “What Not to Wear” event is $15. A reduced rate of $20 will be offered to attend both sessions. Tickets can be purchased at www.maplecitybaptist.com or by calling Maple City Baptist Church at (309)734-2054.

With a passion for fashion, Braendel has been speaking nationally for 15 years as a professional fashion and image consultant. Serving as a member of the Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker team, her goal is to motivate and help women see themselves as God intended...beautiful, self-assured, and perfectly made in his image.

Maple City Baptist Church’s mission is to disciple believers to become responsible team members who will individually do their part to proclaim Jesus in the world. The church is located at 250 S 1st Street, Monmouth.
