Monmouth’s tennis team has continued their solid play in the 2008 season, as they most recently punched-out rivals Knox College on Wednesday, April 9 in Monmouth. The Fighting Scots won the match 8-1, with every Monmouth doubles team winning.

Before the Knox game, the Scots lost the first match against Lake Forest College on Saturday, April 5. However, in the loss, the doubles team of junior Eric Brandhorst and freshman Ben Morrow defeated their opponents of a score 8-5.

In the second match on April 5, the Scots retaliated, winning over Lawrence University. Junior Kyle Korb won his match with scores 6-2 and 6-1. In the second match, senior Kevin Kamenjarin was the victor with scores of 6-2, 4-6 and 10-8.

Freshman Sam Graf won both his matches 6-2 and 6-1. Brandhorst defeated his opponent 6-0 and 6-1. Morrow added two wins with scores of 6-2 and 6-0. The men dominated in doubles competition, winning in all three matches. The first team of Kamenjarin and Korb beat their opponent 8-2.

Brandhorst and Morrow won their match 8-4. In the third match, freshman duo Tony Castro and Sam Graf dominated the court 8-1.

In the win over rivals Knox College, Kamenjarin continued his great play against the Prairie Fire, as he won his games 6-0 and 6-0.

Graf won his matches by scores 6-1 and 6-1. Brandhorst defeated his opponent 6-0 and 6-2.

Morrow won in three games by scores of 6-3, 2-6 and 11-9. Castro also won in singles competition in three games with scores of 7-6, 10-6 and 6-3.

Overall, the Scots have a 9-4 season record and are 1-1 in the MWC standings. The men will travel to Wisconsin this Friday, April 11 to take on Beloit College. The team will return to their home campus for their Saturday, April 12 match against St. Norbert College and then the team will face Illinois College in a second match.
