Katie Ehrhart

When picking a college to attend, most students look at schools that will get them a good distance away from their hometown and family. An exception would be Katie Ehrhart, a freshman at Monmouth College who was born in Monmouth, has lived here her whole life and has chosen to attend a school about five minutes from the house in which she grew up.

One main factor that influenced Ehrhart’s decision in attending Monmouth College was the fact that her older sister, Bridget, is currently a senior at MC. She was also encouraged by her mom, saying, "My mom encouraged me to look at this school because of the beautiful campus, and she wanted me to stay close to home. Once I took a tour around campus, I knew this was the place I wanted to go to school."

Ehrhart is currently a public relations major and is really enjoying the classes she is taking so far this semester. She is a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and is interested in joining yoga, which is available in the Huff Athletic Center. Other than spending time with her sorority sisters and friends, Ehrhart loves bowling, although she claims she is not any good at it. Ehrhart said of her Pi Phi sisters, "My best moments on campus have been with my Pi Phi sisters and getting to know them all."

Ehrhart says her favorite type of music is rock, with her favorite band being Fall Out Boy, who she saw perform two years ago. Her favorite movie is "The Notebook" and her favorite actor and actress are Paul Walker and Kate Hudson, who have starred in movies like "The Fast and The Furious" and "How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days."

Another unique fact about Ehrhart is that she wishes on 11:11 every time she catches it on the clock. So, next time you see 11:11 come up on the clock, make a wish and think of Katie Ehrhart, the new freshman Pi Phi who you should get to know if you already have not.

Amy Lang

If you are involved in an organization on campus, chances are you might know Amy Lang. She is an extremely involved senior, who is majoring in biopsychology. Lang is planning to attend Rush University in downtown Chicago, back in her hometown, for a Masters in nursing after graduation.

While Lang aspires to continue her education, she will not forget Monmouth College. Some of her favorite times are committing "pranks, sneaking breadsticks, Fulton Hall second floor quad, orange freezes, ugly sweaters, family dinners and Katie Lohan." When asked if she has a favorite teacher or department, Lang was unsure at first, but eventually said that, "…the psychology and biology departments will always hold a special place for me, and professors Craig Watson and Ken McMillan are amazing because they have always pushed me to challenge myself."

Lang also has an impressive list of extracurricular activities. She is the programming coordinator of all three Big Brothers Big Sisters programs in Monmouth. She is also a member of Blue Key, Psi Chi, Beta Beta Beta, concert choir and Circle K. Along with all of those engagements, Lang is also currently the assistant director of Up ‘Til Dawn and a leader for a Girl Scout’s brownie troop at Harding Elementary.

Amy added, "I think my legacy would be making Big Brothers Big Sisters a stronger organization in Monmouth, helping to start a brownies troop in Harding and hopefully just being friendly and open to everyone I meet."

Lang also wanted to leave everyone who will be here after her with a little advice. "Join things that are a little bit out of your comfort zone as often as you can, because you will be amazed at how much you learn about yourself and the world around you. If there is any little part of you that is inspired to be active in something, great! Go with that instinct and see where it gets you, because the real world after Monmouth happens faster than you realize and then you will always be able to find a reason why you don’t have time to become involved."
