An Open Letter to the Students of Monmouth College:
The Interfraternity Council would like to address issues and
incidents that have occurred with guests visiting fraternity
housing. We appreciate that so many students feel comfortable
enough to come to our chapters to have a good time; however, we
can no longer ignore the increasing disregard and disrespect we
have seen for the fraternities and our homes. Throughout the
past few semesters, we have had to deal with fights, lack of
respect for rules and policies, theft and vandalism of property
within our chapter facilities and a host of other inappropriate
actions.
Problems like the ones mentioned
above in no way help the fraternities nor Monmouth College.
Furthermore, incidents like these only perpetuate the typical
fraternity stereotypes that the Interfraternity Council has
worked so hard to dispel. The Council is currently taking steps
toward improving the image of Greek life here on campus.
However, for this goal to be achieved we need the support of the
entire campus community.
We hope all the students at Monmouth
College take notice of this letter and respect our outreach to
the campus. The chapters of the Interfraternity Council take
pride in our brotherhood, ritual and community, but we can no
longer tolerate disrespect for our rules and members. We ask
only that you respect the rules and policies of the College to
ensure the safety of our chapters and that you respect our
building as the home that it has become for all of us.
Thank you,
Mr. Perry Mason,
President
On behalf of the
chapters of the Interfraternity Council
