Monmouth College will begin a nationwide search for a
new head swimming coach as soon as possible, following a
step-down decision by Keith Crawford, the two-time Midwest
Conference Men’s Coach of the Year. Crawford accepted a full
time job in Terre Haute, Ind., citing the opportunity to move
closer to his family in Indiana.
Crawford was hired by Monmouth in 2004 to resurrect the men’s
swimming program after a 20-year layoff and established a
women’s swimming curriculum at school. During his reign, the men
placed second in the conference meet the last two years and the
women finished as high as fourth in the conference in 2007.
In Crawford’s five years, the men
have taken six individual and relay conference titles and the
women declared their first two individual crowns last season.
Dave Yez, longtime assistant coach and a 1964 Monmouth College
graduate, has been named the interim head coach for the Scots
this season. Kurt Niemeier, a two-time conference champion has
been named Yez’s top assistant.
