Matt Bentley

By: Kelsey Beshears
Contributing Writer

Senior Matt Bentley can often be spotted playing his guitar in the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity complex, among many other places on campus.

But instead of majoring in music, the Chicago native and graduate of St. Rita High school is majoring in Elementary education.

Since Bentley majors in Elementary education, he "hopes to find a job teaching somewhere in his hometown of Chicago."

"I decided a few years ago that I wanted to become a teacher because I have had many great teachers in my life and I would like to someday be the teacher that influences someone else," said Bentley. "I also love young kids and hope to help some of those that are in need."

During Homecoming Week, Bentley was dubbed as the cowboy Homecoming King.

"Well, I’m not really into all the attention," he said, "but it was very nice to be honored with this and I was very happy."

Bentley is involved with many activities on campus. Besides being a member of the Scots Ambassadors, he is also a Lead Orientation Leader, the house manager of the ATO house, and assistant coach for the Monmouth College Women’s lacrosse team. Bentley also teaches guitar lessons to a few people on campus.

In his free time, Bentley loves hanging out with his girlfriend and friends, along with playing his guitar, and listening to, singing and writing music.

As graduation rolls around the corner, Bentley said that "he will miss MC and all the people and treasures all the memories spent with friends, especially the times spent with his pledge class of ATO."

"Bentley credits a great deal of his college experience to his friends and brothers in ATO and also would not be where he was today without his parents, girlfriend, and some professors here such as Professor Susan Van Kirk, Professor Melinda Grimm, and Doctor Thomas Sargent.
