This past week Monmouth College announced its recipient of the
2009 Student Lincoln Laureate, senior John Kaiser.
The Lincoln Laureate award is given each year to outstanding
seniors from all over the state of Illinois who attend four year
higher learning institutions. This award, which is granted by
the Lincoln Academy of Illinois, is a very high honor for
students across the state.
Students honored
with this award show an overall excellence and involvement in
academics and extracurricular activities at their respective
schools.
Kaiser serves as the
President of the Associated Students of Monmouth College (ASMC),
the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and the Accounting Society. He
is also the Head Resident of Peterson Hall and a member of the
Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor
Society, Mortar Board Honor Society, and the Men’s Varsity Swim
Team.
Kaiser has also been
on the Dean’s list during his time at Monmouth as well.
"If you would have
told me four years ago that I was going to be the Lincoln
Laureate of Monmouth when I was a senior, I would have laughed,
hard," said Kaiser. "I do not think it has fully sunk in yet,
but I am honored to receive this prestigious designation. It is
the cherry on top of my time and experiences here at Monmouth."
Meanwhile, Assistant
Dean of Students Michelle Merritt-Gilbert said "he is the most
visible and involved person on this campus.
"Not only is he an
outstanding student, but his co-curricular involvement runs deep
and wide including but not limited to athletics, student
government, Residence Life and Greek Life. He represents the
best of the best at Monmouth College!"
Kaiser will be honored with other
Laureates at a ceremony, which will be held in Springfield at
the Old State Capitol Building on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009.
