After an undefeated regular season and a thrilling sudden-death victory at their Conference championship on Oct. 25, Monmouth College’s club water polo team, the "Crab People," will be heading to Nationals. On Nov. 7, the team will travel to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine to compete in the Collegiate Water Polo Association’s (CWPS) Division III Championship.

The other top eight teams left in the CWPS alongside Monmouth College include teams from all over the country, and even another college of the Midwest Conference, Grinnell College. The first game the "Crab People" play will be against Middlebury College, from Middlebury, Vt. at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Senior Joe Moran explained that, "going undefeated has built up incredible momentum going into Nationals." Moran also showed his confidence in the team by stating, "We finished seventh at nationals the last two years and I know we are just going to blow away our previous rankings this year."

The team’s coach, sophomore Steve Collins, also explained the importance of going into nationals undefeated and after a hard-fought battle at Conference against Grinnell College.

"I think the team will play with the intensity that they did for conference," said Collins. "Conference this year was in a double deep, eight lane pool. It helped us prepare for the type of setting and mentality we will play at Nationals."

Sophomore Jeff Skalon, who scored the game-tying shot against Grinnell and the winning shot in sudden-death overtime explained that the team is more ready than they have been in previous years.

The "Crab People" are funding the entire trip themselves and hope to have it pay off with a strong showing at nationals. The games can be viewed online over the weekend at www.collegiatewaterpolo.org for a minimal fee.
