There are many different
languages and with those languages, many different dialects. On
Thursday, Sept. 20, in the Morgan Room of Poling Hall, Kim Potowski,
from the University of Illinois at Chicago, enlightened a diverse
audience of Monmouth College students, faculty and even some of
Monmouth’s community members about her study of one specific Spanish
dialect.

MC commended for Latin education program

The Monmouth College Latin secondary education program has
recently gained national recognition from “U.S. News and World
Report.” The “Report” organized the top 14 Latin education
programs in the United States in its 2008 “Best American
Colleges” issue. The schools are ranked based on qualities of
their programs, like: post-graduation job placement, retention
and program requirements.

PRISM shedding light on new subject of acceptance

The on-campus
awareness organization titled People Respecting Individual Sexuality
at Monmouth (more commonly known as PRISM) appears to have grown
quite a bit over the past year. Despite being a group which, as some
may argue, was hardly well acknowledged and recognized by the
student body in previous years, PRISM has now arisen and flourished
(both socially and financially) in its attempt to spread
understanding and open-mindedness for Monmouth College’s gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) population.

Student run program
helps peers unwind on those late weekday nights

There are many social outlets
for studying on campus, and junior Jordan Hedberg is committed to
bringing a coffee house environment to the students of Monmouth
College.
A business major, Hedberg declares, “There is a void in
Monmouth College’s student night life which needs to be filled so
that students have something to do besides drink alcohol.” Hedberg
and his associates are attempting to fill that void by revamping the
coffee house gathering at The Grounds.

to say about his current sabbatical. Among his many responsibilities
this year, he is recouping and preparing to come back to Monmouth

Letter FROM the Editor - Apology
Balancing life is sometimes a
difficult act while trudging through our years at college. At times
we get lazy and make mistakes, and it is a testament to our grand
institution that most of the time we get caught, at least
academically.
Working for
The Courier for more than three years now, I have made my
fair share of mistakes, some of which have found their way into
print. None of these were as embarrassing and obvious as the Sept.
14, 2007 issue of The Courier.
