Who should major in biochemistry?
Biochemistry appeals to those who like to understand how life works. It is one of the fastest growing fields today and spans a number of the sciences. If you are interested in a field with unlimited potential and many opportunities, biochemistry has it. Biochemistry majors work in medical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology research centers, forensics; food and agriculture industries; and many other diverse fields. If this sounds interesting, then maybe you should consider biochemistry.

Why biochemistry at Monmouth?
Monmouth biochemistry program will give you a strong base in both biology and chemistry, providing you with a strong foundation in both areas. In your junior and senior year you will be involved in a more in-depth study of biochemistry itself with some flexibility to explore this field in the area that you are interested. With foundations in the liberal arts and biochemistry, you will have the skills for a future in biochemistry, biosciences, biotechnology as well as an excellent preparation for medical, dental or preprofessional or graduate studies.

What opportunities does the Biochemisty major provide?
Pharmaceutical research, chemical synthesis, molecular biology, microbiology, genomics, cancer biochemistry, are just a few areas of study available at Monmouth that will give you experience by participating in interesting and practical projects. Methods specific biochemistry will be learned through hands-on activities. Thanks to a Monmouth science endowment, Monmouth has the advantage of having both state of the art equipment and small class sizes allowing all students experience with modern equipment and techniques. Electrophoresis, spectroscopy, chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance, cloning, DNA fingerprinting, bioinformatics are just some of the methods you'll learn as a biochemistry major.
