Career Opportunities
Some students who major in classical languages eventually teach Latin at the high school
level. Monmouth maintains one of the few Latin certification programs approved by the Illinois
State Teacher Certification Board. (There is currently a shortage of certified Latin teachers
in the United States.) Other Classics students pursue graduate work in the classics, history,
archeology, law, medicine or museum studies. The department's alumni have gone into such
diverse fields as library science and computer programming. All have used their education to
enhance the quality of their own lives and the lives of their families.
Graduate School Opportunities
Classics majors from Monmouth College can qualify for a wide variety of graduate school
programs in Classics nationally. In particular, Monmouth students have done well at Loyola
University, the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and Indiana University. |
