Master of Science in Nursing at Rush University
Monmouth College has an affiliated program with the Rush University College of Nursing. After earning an undergraduate degree from Monmouth, qualified students can gain entry to the Generalist Entry Master’s Program.

The goal of this program is to prepare students to be leaders in the clinical setting. This program consists of 6 quarter (1.5 years) of classroom and clinical work and one quarter spent in a residency experience.

Courses
To qualify for the Rush nursing program, a course of study consisting of several science classes will need to be completed at Monmouth. All courses must be complete with a grade of C or better.

These courses are as follows:

Biology: Monmouth Course
  Human Anatomy BIOL 204
  Human Physiology BIOL 204
  Microbiology BIOL 302
  (BIOL 111 (Zoology) and BIOL 200 (Cell Biology) also are required since these courses are prerequisites for the upper level biology classes.)
     
Chemistry Monmouth Course
  Organic or Biochemistry CHEM 130
     
Psychology Monmouth Course
  Introduction Psychology PSYC101
  Development,
Child Psychology
PSYC231
     
Mathematics Monmouth Course
  Statistics MATH106 or MATH207

A nutrition course (normal nutrition) must also be completed at another institution. This type of course is offered at many community colleges.

While many students intending to apply to the nursing program select a major in the sciences, a student may choose any major field of study as long as the courses listed above are completed.

Other Admissions requirements:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0

  • Science GPA of 3.0

  • Acceptable GRE scores (if GPA is below 3.25)

  • Recommendation from the health care advisor (or other faculty member)

  • An interview with a faculty member at Rush

Application deadlines for Rush Master’s in Nursing Program

Deadline for application for summer quarter admission (begins late June) is early January of the same year.

Deadline for application for winter quarter admission (begins January) is late June/early July of previous calendar year.
