An extraordinary role model of service to our country, he
enlisted in the Air force following graduation from Monmouth
College and flew 100 combat missions over North Vietnam as a
combat Fighter Pilot. As a member of the South Dakota Air
National Guard, he was recalled to Active Duty by Secretary of
the Air Force in 1988 to serve as the Director of Air National
Guard and later appointed Commander of First Air Force. Numerous Honors include Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying
Cross, Meritorious Service, Air Medal with 12 oak leaf clusters
and Air National Guards order of the sword, only seventh
recipient since 1967.
