Class of 1970
Inducted June 6, 1998
As
a leader of the U.S. Navy Seal Units for 28 years Robert Mabry has been
instrumental in building this nation's Special Forces into the capability
we have today. Mabry joined the Seal Program after graduating from
Monmouth College in 1970 and was promoted to the officer ranks in 1971.
He spent the next 14 years in various command and oversight posts for navy
special operations units throughout Europe, Asia, and the Pacific in
1987. He was named to the Secretary of Defenses Pentagon Staff and became
the director for special operations in that capacity.
He helped create a
new Assistant Secretary of Defense Position that oversees all special
operations units and developed new policies that fundamentally changed the
way Special Forces are organized, trained, and funded as a captain. Mabry
commanded all Navy's special operations forces deploying to Asia, The
Middle East, and Africa.
