Stationery is
a primary means of conveying the Monmouth College image at the personal level. The stationery must be visually related to other applications of
the graphic standards. The
focal point of the identification on all stationery is the college logo
and the tartan stripe. The red ink color to be used on college
stationery (and other uncoated paper stock) is Pantone 193.

Fig. 1 - Departmental Letterhead
Letterhead
In most instances, letterhead, second
sheets and envelopes are to be ordered from Campus Services (ext. 2126).
A large supply of generic stationery is maintained by that office and
letterhead will be imprinted on demand with departmental information, as
depicted in Figure 1, usually in lots of 500 sheets. The standard
departmental information, which appears opposite the logo in the upper
right corner of the page, is the name of the department (in bold), the
college street address, the department's general telephone number, and
general fax number.
For
large quantities of stationery (such as for bulk mailings) it is
recommended that a department order directly from the college's
stationery printer (currently Kellogg Printing in Monmouth, 734-8388),
which maintains the proper templates. If desired, the order can be placed by the College Communications Office
(ext. 2314).
In any
correspondence, the signature of an individual authorized to use department
stationery should be followed by his or her title, in order to provide suitable
identification for return correspondence.

Fig. 2 - Standard Envelope
Envelopes
As
with letterhead, departments typically order envelopes from Campus
Services (ext. 2126). Unlike the letterhead itself, envelopes generally
do not include departmental information (Fig. 2). The generic envelope
includes the Monmouth College logo and
address in the top left corner of the envelope. The tartan stripe design appears horizontally at the top left of the envelope.
The United States Postal Service
has established strict regulations about the placement of text and
images on envelopes. For
example, the return address must be placed not less than 2.75 inches
from the bottom edge of the envelope. Guidelines published by USPS are available for review in the
Campus Services Office.
To
order custom envelopes, contact Kellogg Printing or College
Communications (see information above).

Fig. 3 - Sample Business Card
Business Cards
Despite
its small size, the business card is versatile and widely-used document
that may be retained by a client or acquaintance for years and is
sometimes posted publicly, such as on a bulletin board. It is therefore
essential that it reflect well on the college, both from a graphic and
quality standpoint. The information contained on the business card (Fig.
3) typically includes the individual's name, title, department, street
address, office phone number, fax number, e-mail address and Web site
URL. Optional information may include a home telephone number or e-mail
address, cell phone number, or additional job titles. Some faculty
members choose to include their academic credentials following their
name.
Business
cards may be ordered through the College Communications office (ext.
2314). The preferred method for submitting information to appear on the
card is email (jeffr@monm.edu),
campus mail, or fax (ext. 2330). You will receive a typeset proof to
sign off on, prior to printing.
IMPORTANT:
Although business cards may be ordered through College Communications, a
requisition for purchase order must also be submitted. It should be made
payable to Kellogg Printing Co., 95 Public Square, Monmouth, IL 61462.
The requisition should include the quantity (500), the description
(2-color business cards) and the name of the individual. The approximate
cost is $50. Business cards should be charged to an appropriate cost center, such
as commercial printing, office supplies, or miscellaneous supplies.
