MONMOUTH COLLEGE AGAIN RANKED AMONG THE
BEST LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGES
For the seventh consecutive year, Monmouth College has been
ranked as a national liberal arts college by U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best
Colleges 2001" rankings. Released today and published in both the weekly magazine and a
popular guidebook, the rankings will be on news and book store shelves soon.
Monmouth College is ranked among 162 national liberal arts colleges--highly selective
institutions which award more than 40 percent of their degrees in the liberal arts. National
liberal arts colleges make up less than 25 percent of U.S. colleges recognized by the
Department of Education as offering a general baccalaureate course of study.
The ranking is based on statistics maintained by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement
of Teaching, which classifies 591 U.S. colleges as liberal arts institutions. The other 429
schools, which it classifies as regional liberal arts colleges, are less selective and award
60 percent of baccalaureate degrees in occupational, technical and professional fields.
