MONMOUTH COLLEGE DONATES TO LOCAL
BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT
Release Date:
August 16, 2000
President Richard F. Giese recently donated a $1,000 check on
behalf of Monmouth College to the "Revitalizing Downtown Monmouth" project. The check was
accepted by Randy McElwee, the chairperson of the Downtown Business Council.
McElwee reported that the check raised the funds in the
campaign to $2,625. The goal is $29,000.
Since its donation is greater than $300, Monmouth College
will have its name listed on a plaque by the item connected to its pledge. In the college’s
case, the money is targeted for the purchase of historical markers as well as a trash
receptacle. The project also seeks donations for the purchase of antique street lights,
business markers and island planters as well as the restoration and rebuilding of a fountain
in the Public Square that was removed about 80 years ago.
