MC STUDENT TO SPEAK ON ZIMBABWE AT FEB.
16 INTERNATIONAL LUNCHEON
Release
Date: February 8, 2000
Colleen Shaughnessy, a Monmouth College senior from
Springfield, Ill., will be the featured speaker Feb. 16 at an International Luncheon in the
college’s Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room in Stockdale Center.
Shaughnessy participated in the ACM Zimbabwe Program during
the spring semester of 1999. The experiences she encountered were centered at the University
of Zimbabwe in Harare, where she took courses in Zimbabwean politics, language and culture and
spent time with the students. Her other experiences were rooted in the host families with whom
she lived and an internship at an AIDS Counseling Trust.
In her presentation entitled "Images of Zimbabwe,"
Shaughnessy will discuss the cultural, historical and political aspects of her experiences and
relate why the country has become near and dear to her heart.
The luncheon, which begins at noon, is open to the public.
International food will be served, and the cost for the meal is $4.50. Meal tickets may be
purchased in the Stockdale Center office. Anyone may attend the one-hour presentation without
an obligation to buy a meal.
