MONMOUTH COLLEGE ENROLLMENT
Release Date: August 28, 2001
Although the final enrollment figure won’t be announced until Sept. 3, Monmouth College will
have its most students on campus since the 1971-72 academic year, according to vice president
for admission Marybeth Kemp.
“We have 1,107 that are registered,” she said. “That includes
343 new students, of which 275 are first-time freshmen.”
Last year’s final enrollment figure was 1,066. Even if the
final enrollment figure dips slightly over the next week, Kemp said it will still come in well
ahead of the 1,074 students enrolled for the 1998-99 academic year.
“We’re seeing the results of the campus-wide effort on both
recruitment and retention,” said Kemp, who added the retention figure will be approximately 92
percent.
In the fall of 1971, Monmouth had an
enrollment of 1,205. The figure fell below 1,000 by the next year and
didn’t reach four digits again until 1997-98. This marks the fifth
straight year that enrollment has topped the 1,000-student plateau.
