SOS TO PRESENT CONVOCATION 11-6-01
Release Date:
October
23, 2001
Students Organized for Service (SOS), a Monmouth College service
organization, will present a convocation Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. in the college Auditorium.
SOS has been active in many local service projects, including a
tutoring program at Lincoln Homes, Habitat for Humanity and the Sunshine Club, which is an
after-school program for Monmouth youth. It has also made an impact outside the community
through Alternative Spring Breaks, one of which took them to East St. Louis earlier this year.
Sophomore Melissa Lenz of Media and junior Stephanie Fritz of
Galesburg are the co-chairs of SOS and will be two of the speakers at the convocation. Stacy
Stoldorf, Monmouth College’s assistant director of leadership and involvement, serves as the
group’s sponsor.
The SOS speakers will discuss the service opportunities that are
currently available as well as how students or other groups can get involved. The program will
be of special interest to members of local service organizations as they can learn how this
successful campus group operates and also explore the possibility of working together with
SOS.
