CAROLYN SUDA FEATURED IN CELLO CONCERT ON 10-28-01
Release Date:
October
24, 2001
Cellist
Carolyn Suda will be featured in a Monmouth College faculty recital Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. in the
college Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Suda, a lecturer in Monmouth’s department of music and the principal
cellist with the Knox-Galesburg Symphony, will be accompanied by Leigh Pirtle, a former
Monmouth College student, who is professor of piano at Southeastern Community College in
Burlington, Iowa.
“We will be playing two works representing the great tradition of
German music – a Baroque work by J.S. Bach and a classical work by Beethoven,” said Suda, who
will perform as concerto soloist in the Knox-Galesburg Symphony’s 50th Anniversary Concert
Series in February. “However, the second half of the program will lighten up considerably with
music from around the world: a collection of dances from Spain by Cassado, a powerful tango
from Argentina by Piazolla, an intermezzo from France by Lalo and a beautiful short lyrical
melody by Tchaikovsky from Russia.”
Concluded Suda, “Through this recital, I want to show the great
diversity of chamber music available for cello and piano – something for everyone.”
