The Broadway production of "The Visit" was a Drama Critics'
Circle Award winner starring Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in 1958. The play is a creepy
tragicomedy that tells the story of a rich and flamoyant women who returns to the economically
depressed village of her birth and offers to donate a large sum of money to get the town back
on its feet. Unfortunately, there is a chilling condition to get the gift and the moral fiber
of every resident is put to the test.
"Initially," said director Jim De Young, "I was seeing the
play as a study of the insidious effects of human greed; now, with the events of Sept. 11
still on the mind, I am just as aware of how it speaks to the sickness of uncontrolled,
festering revenge."
Almost 30 cast members are now in rehearsal for the show.
Leading roles will be played by Lana Raines, a junior from Orland Park; Tom Scott, a senior
from Burlington, Iowa; Geoff Edwards, a junior from Granite City; and Kyle Anderson, a junior
from Somonauk.
Others in the cast are Beth Purdy, Tom Hill, Carrie Casper,
Pam Hansen, Shannon Wainscott, Casey Willey, Amber Rabe, Amanda Caldwell, Jim Verraros, Vicki
Kunz, Phil Johnson, Jon Peterson, Lisa Rzeszutko, Jeannette Nielsen, Danielle Britt, Shannon
Ogden, Shannon Fitzjarrald, Tina Meyer, Anne Olson, Emily Mitsdarffer, Robbin Balcom, Rebecca
Stachnik, Pat Kennedy and Matt Underwood.
