STANTON TO PRESENT
PROGRAM ON TUNISIA AT MCRelease Date: October 19, 2001
Perhaps the most renowned province of ancient Rome – electing
at one time 25 of the 100 senators in the Roman Forum – the African country of Tunisia is a
treasure of mosaics, artifacts and architectural monuments of Rome’s sophisticated society.
Monmouth resident Fred Stanton, who took a comprehensive tour
of Tunisia in November 2000, will relate his experiences in an International Luncheon at
Monmouth College on Oct. 24 at noon in the Highlander Room in Stockdale Center. Entitled
“Tunisia Unveiled,” Stanton’s presentation is free and open to the public. Lunch featuring
international food is available, and tickets for the meal can be purchased for $5 at the
Stockdale Center office.
Stanton was one of 14 individuals participating in the tour,
sponsored by Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History. The group received instruction from
native guides and noted archaeologists. The two-week tour covered much of Tunisia, from its
forested hills and fertile valleys in the northern third to the arid Sahara of the southern
third of the country.
