Monmouth College Dean to Chair ACM Advisory Committee

George
Arnold, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Monmouth College, has
been named chair of the executive committee of the Advisory Board of Deans of the Associated
Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) for 2002.
A consortium of 14 colleges in Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota,
and Wisconsin, the ACM works to enrich the curricula of member colleges through off-campus
study programs for students as well as workshops and conferences for faculty.
Arnold, who holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of Maryland,
began teaching in MC’s departments of education and history in 1974 and was promoted to full
professor in 1989. A former associate dean of the faculty, he assumed his current position in
1996, having been selected from a field of 150 candidates.
He is a past recipient of the Sears-Roebuck Foundation Award for
Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership and served as a member of the Illinois Board of
Higher Education’s Committee on the Study of Undergraduate Education. His research on social
studies education and education management has been widely published and he has led numerous
seminars on management for corporations and schools.
