Professor Reflects on Career of Noted Archaeologist at MC

Jane Borelli, a professor at Augustana
College, will discuss the career of the late Oscar Broneer at an archeology lecture March 14
at 7:30 p.m. in the Highlander Room in Monmouth College’s Stockdale Center.
Sponsored by the Western Illinois Society of
the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA), the lecture is free to the public.
Entitled “From Backebo to Old Corinth by Way
of Augustana College,” Borelli’s talk will reflect on Broneer and the changes he saw in his
discipline through the 20th century. Broneer, who died in 1992 at the age of 98, was the man
who located the Temple of Poseidon at Isthmia and other notable ancient shrines and artifacts.
Borelli will also discuss how Broneer decided to become an archaeologist and the way in which
he preferred to practice his profession.
