Chorale’s Spring
Tour will Conclude Monday at MC
Release Date: March 6, 2002
The Monmouth College Chorale will perform
March 11 in the college Auditorium to conclude their seven-state spring break concert tour.
Besides performing in Illinois, the Chorale will also sing in Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky,
Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.
The program, which is free and open to the
public, begins at 7:30 p.m.
Directed by Dr. Perry White, the Chorale is
a select 36-member a cappella ensemble made up of undergraduate students from a wide variety
of academic disciplines. Following a 30-year hiatus, the group was reestablished in the fall
of 1998. Since that time, White and the Chorale have delighted audiences with highly
successful concert tours throughout the country.
This year’s concert program is divided into
four sets and features selected sacred music of English masters, traditional works by
20th-century American composers, portions of the Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez and lighter
choral favorites.
The Monmouth College choral tradition has a
long and varied history, dating back to the 1890s. Following a precedent set by instrumental
groups such as the mandolin and guitar ensembles, Monmouth’s men’s and women’s Glee Clubs
began touring throughout the Midwest. The tradition continued after the merger of the Monmouth
Conservatory of Music with Monmouth College in the 1930s, as choral organizations have
represented the college by making annual performance tours throughout the United States and
abroad. Current choral ensembles include the Chorale, Chamber Choir and Concert Choir.
White holds a doctorate of musical arts
degree from the University of Oklahoma and a master’s degree in music from the Conservatory at
the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He earned his bachelor’s degree in vocal music
education from Luther College, where he studied with the esteemed Weston Noble. A member of
the American Choral Directors Association and Music Educators National Conference, he has
received many acknowledgements for his work in choral music.
