MC to Conduct 145th Annual Commencement

Dr.
Stanley E. Chism, co-founder of The Cancer Care Institute in San Jose, Calif., and a 1963
Monmouth graduate, will deliver the commencement address to approximately 250 graduating
seniors during Monmouth College's 145th annual commencement exercises on May 12.
The Mother's Day ceremony will begin at noon on Wallace Hall
Plaza.
The ceremony will conclude a weekend of activities honoring the Class of 2002. Saturday's
events will include a baccalaureate service at 2 p.m. in the college Auditorium, a farewell
reception hosted by President Richard Giese on Quinby House lawn at 4 p.m., and the
traditional "senior send-off" at 8 p.m. at VFW Post 2301, 830 N. G St.
The
baccalaureate service will feature traditional religious hymns and scripture readings by
Monmouth College faculty, staff and students and a litany led by President Giese.
The Monmouth Chorale will sing several hymns, and sophomores
Rachel Danaher of Palos Heights, Ill., and Neil Wallace of Coquitlam, British Columbia, will
play "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes.
Seniors, their families, faculty, alumni and friends are
invited to the "senior send-off" dance with food and refreshments. The event is sponsored by
the Monmouth College Alumni Association.
On Sunday, seniors will gather for a class photo on the
Auditorium steps at 11:15 a.m. They will then line up for the traditional processional from
Broadway to the Wallace Hall Plaza. Their march will be accompanied by music from the Monmouth
College Pipe Band .
Brandi McCoy, a senior from Belvidere, Ill., and the
college's 2001 Lincoln Laureate, will bid farewell to the college on behalf of the graduating
class, and President Giese will reciprocate on behalf of the college.
A reception for graduates and their families will be held on
Dunlap Terrace following the commencement ceremony.
