Works of Three Area Photographers On Exhibit at MC
Release Date: February 6, 2002
Three local photographers, including an
alumnus of Monmouth College, will have their work on display in the college’s Len G. Everett
Gallery Feb.6th through March 1st.
Entitled "Ankeney.Foley.Vellenga," the
exhibit includes the photography of John Vellenga ’62 and Galesburg residents Rich Ankeney and
Tom Foley.
A Monmouth resident, Vellenga took up
photography in 1983. Most of his works on display will be black-and-white photos of subjects
in portrait style. His subjects are people from the Middle West--especially Colorado. Vellenga
enlarges the photos to life-size to “try to create a dialogue between the audience and
photograph.”
Vellenga, who won the best of show honor at
the Gaelic National Show in Galesburg, has also had his works on exhibit in Texas and in
Macomb and the Quad Cities.
Ankeney, who has been involved in
photography for more than 30 years, is an art teacher in the Galesburg school district and an
adjunct faculty member at Carl Sandburg College.
Foley and his wife,
MC art lecturer Carla
Markwart, opened
Foley
Photo Studio in Galesburg last year.
The Everett Gallery is located on the upper
level of Hewes Library. It is open during regular library hours.
