MC Women’s Fraternities Receive National Recognition
Release Date: March 25, 2002
Each summer, Monmouth College women’s fraternities traditionally
attend regional conferences, national leadership conferences or national conventions. Last
summer, Alpha Xi Delta and Pi Beta Phi received recognition from their respective national
headquarters, while Kappa Kappa Gamma’s national convention will be held this summer.
The Beta Epsilon chapter of Alpha Xi Delta received many first-place
awards at the Alpha Xi Delta National Convention in Washington, D.C. The chapter received a
Financial Efficiency Award, which is presented to chapters that develop and follow an
organized budget, and an Academic Achievement Award for having a chapter GPA of over 3.0. Also
received was the Order of the Quill Award, which denotes outstanding chapter operations.
Brandi McCoy, a senior from Belvidere, received the Jessie Pulcipher Communication
Scholarship.
Pi Beta Phi’s Illinois Alpha chapter received a Jo Ann Minor Roderick
Chapter of Excellence Award for being one of the top 10 chapters in the nation. The Monmouth
group also received honorable mention for the Lucille Douglass Carson and Helen Anderson Lewis
Award, recognizing philanthropic contributions of chapters to communities; the Centennial
Award, recognizing the chapter that best instills in its pledge class high standards and
knowledge and appreciation of Pi Beta Phi; and the Alumnae Province Presidents Award, which
recognizes the chapter that best develops programming to meet the needs of senior members
entering into the alumnae department.
Individually, Mariah Sexton, a 2001 MC graduate, won the National Jean
Wirths Scott Leadership Award; Kristina Jozwiak, a senior from Elk Grove Village, received
honorable mention for the correspondence-based Marilyn Simpson Ford Award; and Tracy McKeown,
a senior from Alexis, received an honorable mention in the competition for the Olivia Smith
Moore Silver Slipper, given to the best chapter treasurer.
