Series of events planned to celebrate
Black History Month at MC

MONMOUTH, Ill. — A poetry reading Monday is one of
three events that will help Monmouth College celebrate Black History
Month.
Shelly More-Guy, a nationally-acclaimed poet,
storyteller, writer and activist will be the featured speaker at “Spoken
Word Poetry” on the lower level of the college’s Stockdale Center at 8
p.m. The event, which is sponsored by the office of intercultural life, is
open to the public. Audience members are encouraged to bring their own
poetry to share.
On Feb. 22, MC’s Coalition for Ethnic Awareness (CEA)
will sponsor a gospel festival at 7 p.m. at the Faith United Presbyterian
Church. CEA is also sponsoring Soul Food Night on Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. in the
Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room in Stockdale Center. Both CEA events are
also open to the public. The gospel festival, which will feature
performances by singers such as Lisa Cato, David Slater and Robbin Balkcom,
is free. There is a $5 charge for the dinner.
