Concert Choir, Chamber Choirs to perform
at MC’s spring concert
Release Date: February 27, 2003
MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College’s
popular Spring Choral Concert, featuring the college’s Concert Choir and
the Freshman Men’s and Women’s Chamber Choirs, will be held on March 3 at
7:30 p.m. at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth. The event is
free and open to the public.
The choirs will perform under the
direction of Perry White, associate professor of music and director of
choral activities.
A special performance of the Monmouth
College String Ensemble will open the concert. The group will play two
selections – a Czech folk song suite which consists of “Annie, Dear” and
“Stodola Pumpa,” arranged by Merle Isaac, and “Fantasia on a 17th
Century Tune,” arranged by Richard Stephan.
The Freshman Women’s Chamber Choir will
perform, among other standard choral literature, a contemporary piece by
Scott Nathan Lewis entitled “Sarajevo.” The Freshman Men’s Chamber Choir
will follow with some additional standard male chorus arrangements,
including two pieces by Felix Mendelssohn.
The 36-member Concert Choir, the
college’s oldest and most firmly established ensemble, will perform a
medley of popular songs from Alan Jay Lerner as well as Frederick Loewe’s
“Brigadoon.” White said the decision to feature Brigadoon, a mythical
place in Scotland, is an effort to pay homage to the college’s Scottish
heritage during its sesquicentennial celebration.
Faith Church is located at 200 South
Eighth Street in Monmouth, just one block from campus.
