Harpist to perform March 23 recital

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Harpist and composer
Julieanne Rabens will perform a recital Sunday at 7 p.m. in Monmouth
College's newly renovated Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
The program, which is free and open to the public, will feature music
from around the world, including France, Paraguay, Japan, Ireland
and Scotland.
A former assistant professor of music at Union College, Rabens is
currently continuing her studies in music at Northern Illinois University.
Earlier, she taught composition through a public school mentoring program
for gifted students and was a graduate teaching assistant in music theory,
jazz and history at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
As a composer, Rabens received the Vreeland Award for Composition at
UNL, and Union College’s Division of Fine Arts Award of Excellence for
Leadership in Music and Drama and Excellence In Music Composition. She has
had commissions and composed many pieces, including a cantata, "The Story
of Ruth."
